Everything You Need To Know Before Watching SPECTRE - Part II

Quantum of Solace (2008)

Quantum of Solace follows up immediately after the events of Casino Royale, with Mr. White in the boot of Bond's Aston Martin DBS with a gunshot-wounded leg as the former is being chased at high speeds by White's guards and henchmen.

I won't go as in-depth with this movie as I did with Casino Royale as it's just not worth it. This one is, in my opinion, the weakest entry in the series. So what I'll do is just put it all in a nutshell.

After evading the pursuers, Bond and M interrogate Mr. White in a safehouse in Siena, Italy, where Mr. White reveals that his organisation Quantum "have people everywhere".

M's bodyguard Mitchell, a double agent, attacks M, enabling Mr. White to escape. We see Mr. White later on in the movie, as part of an in-ear Quantum conference held at the Bregenz Opera House during a performance of Tosca which Bond intercepts. White is never seen again, so it is assumed that he is alive and active, whereabouts unknown.

Bond pursues Mitchell through the streets before he ends up killing him, much to M's dismay as she wanted to question him instead.

Bond then embarks on a streak which sees him kill man after man, fuelled by the vengeance he feels after the events of Casino Royale.

It eventually leads to the film's main antagonist, Dominic Greene, who is a member of Quantum stationed in Bolivia, whose goal is to contaminate and drought Bolivia's water supply as part of a coup to rapidly inflate the price of water.

After the final battle in an eco-hotel in the Bolivian desert, Bond confronts Greene and interrogates him about Quantum. Bond then leaves him in the middle of the desert with nothing but a can of motor oil. It is later that we know that Greene had been shot by an anonymous assassin, most likely from Quantum for betraying them by having told Bond all he wanted to know about the organisation.

In the final scene of the film, Bond confronts Vesper's former lover, and discovers that he is actually working for Quantum to seduce women with valuable connections in order for them to face a similar fate as Vesper did.

Bond tells the man's latest target, a Canadian Intelligence agent of his true intentions, thus sparing her from Vesper's fate. After interrogation, Bond leaves the man to be arrested by MI6 instead of killing him.

As Bond walks away after being debriefed by M, he chucks the necklace Vesper wore (in which he kept in memory of her) away.

That is the story in a nutshell, as it would be far too confusing if I went into detail.

The movie was a disaster, in my opinion. It was messy, insanely confusing and just awful as a whole.

For the detailed description, do check out the Wikipedia page (it's very accurate). I wouldn't recommend you watch the movie because it's that awful.

So that concludes part two of three! I'll be back soon with the explanation of 2012's magnificent Skyfall, as well as a brief explanation of the organisation known as SPECTRE.

Stay tuned for more!

Cheers.
